This page is intended to be a resource for anyone that has been a victim of crime, and particularly for those victims that reside within the jurisdiction of the Bristol Tennessee Police Department. Various crimes and the resources available to victims of those crimes are listed below.
Victim Compensation - In some cases crime victims may incur expenses such as bills for medical treatment, hospital and doctor's visits, etc. These victims may be eligible for monetary compensation from the Tennessee Victim's Compensation Fund. For more information follow the link or contact the Victim/Witness Coordinator of the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office at 423-279-3288.
Domestic Violence - Abuse Alternatives operates a domestic violence shelter that serves victims of domestic violence from Bristol and the surrounding jurisdictions. They maintain a 24-hour hotline at 800-987-6499 or 423-764-2287. Their website provides information for victims of domestic violence including information on safety planning. The Crisis Center also operates a 24-hour hotline at 276-466-2312. Sgt. Jason McCready is the Department's domestic violence officer and he can be reached at 423-989-5541. Sgt. McCready is available to assist victims with risk assessment, safety planning, obtaining an order of protection, court advocacy and for referral to other agencies that can better serve certain needs of domestic violence victims.
Under certain circumstances the Department can provide victims of domestic violence with a cellular phone programmed to dial 911 or to initiate the installation of an AWARE alarm system through ADT security. The AWARE alarm is a panic alarm system that is hooked to the victim's home phone line and activated by a transmitter worn on a chain around the victim's neck. When the transmitter is activated it causes the AWARE alarm to contact ADT's security center and the police are dispatched to the victim's residence.
