CITIZENS MUNICIPAL ACADEMY
Applications are now being accepted for the City of Bristol Tennessee 2012 Citizens Municipal Academy (CMA). The CMA is a seven week program designed to familiarize citizens with city government, its services and role in the community. The program will also provide Bristol residents with the knowledge necessary to better understand and support city efforts for the enrichment and development of the Bristol community.
Participation requires a commitment of one evening per week for seven weeks. The 2012 Academy is scheduled for Thursdays from October 18 through November 29. Each session will commence at 6:00 p.m. and last approximately two hours. Academy sessions will be held at various locations. At the conclusion of the academy, participants will be invited to attend the December 4, 2012 City Council meeting to be publicly recognized and receive a graduation certificate.
o The Big Picture: Mission, History, Governance Structure, Financial, Boards and Commissions
o Recreational and Leisure Service Opportunities: Parks, Recreation, Program offerings, Cultural/Musical Events, Community Relations
o Developing and Maintaining the Community: Economic Development, Planning, Code Enforcement
o Public Infrastructure: Public Works, Water System, Sewer System, Solid Waste
o Public Safety – Fire: Fire Prevention, Fire Suppression, Emergency Medical Services
o Public Safety – Police: Patrol, Investigations, Community Policing, Emergency Communications
Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Space is limited, so applications should be submitted as soon as possible. There is no cost to participate in the academy.
