Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP)

The intent of the Bristol Tennessee/Virginia Urban Area Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is to create the best possible plan of action to help maintain a functional transportation system for the Metropolitan Planning Area. As required by federal law, the plan is updated on a regular cycle and includes a planning horizon of at least 20 years. Each plan represents an update of the previous LRTP.

For transportation projects to be eligible for federal funding, they must first appear in the LRTP. This document provides an overview of the existing transportation system, including roadways, public transportation services, bicycle/pedestrian facilities, and freight movements, and evaluates future transportation improvements. Additionally, federal law requires the preparation of an LRTP that is realistic, both from an implementation and a financial standpoint.

2045 Projects

To assist the public in accessing information on the projects identified in the 2045 LRTP, the Bristol MPO has prepared a dashboard summarizing project counts by lead agency, improvement types, total costs, and horizon years for completion. Please access this dashboard here.
