Volunteering helps save the Bristol Tennessee Police Department an estimated $100,000 each year. A volunteer auxiliary police force provides backup and support services at all levels of the police department.
The Auxiliary unit enhances the Police Department's operational and administrative efforts. Auxiliary officers assist in crowd control during major public events, respond during specified disasters and provide backup services at all levels as needed.
Auxiliary officers must conform to all general orders, rules and regulations of the department. They are not sworn officers and do not have powers to arrest, carry firearms or the authority equivalent to a regular police officer.
