Records

The Records Division is commanded by the Communications Manager under the Direction of the Support Services Section of the Police Department. This division is assigned the responsibility and function of records keeping and dissemination in accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated and the City Charter.

Why Records are Important

Records' keeping is an inherent function of law enforcement. As such, records keeping is managed with respect to meeting the needs of the city, the Police Department, and the citizens of Bristol. Records provide a basic source of information to further investigative needs and direct enforcement activities, therefore, the records keeping function is integral to the overall function of the Police Department.

Responsibilities

The Records Division is responsible for report data entry, report review, report control, records maintenance, records retrieval, and State reporting. All incident, offense, and accident reports are processed within the Records Division. Also, our staff processes all city traffic and parking citations and is responsible for the scheduling of Defensive Driving training for the department.

Accident / Incident Reports

Accident reports are available online. Individual incident, offense and accident report copies may be picked up at the Records Division during normal business hours free of charge. If multiple reports or copies are required, a cost estimate will be provided before the work is completed. Report copies may be available within 48 hours, in most cases. Accidents involving personal injury or estimated damage of $1,500 or greater requires an Owner / Driver Responsibility Form be sent to Nashville. A copy of this report is available at the link above.
