The Bristol Public Library has entered into partnerships with two area colleges to help people looking for educational and employment opportunities. Northeast State Community College and East Tennessee State University’s Educational Opportunity Center program will be providing counselors to help people enroll in postsecondary education and take part in possible employment training. NSCC’s College Access Office recently obtained a grant to help students enroll at NSCC for classes that will increase their employability. The program is called Job Ready Willing and Able or JRWA and it provides students with new skills and connections to area employers through NSCC’s Advanced Technology programs. The counselor who will help prospective students will be available at the BPL on Tuesdays 1PM until 4PM in the Blue Stocking Room.
ETSU’s Educational Opportunity Center is part of the University’s TRIO programs. The EOC counselor will help people apply for financial aid, fill out applications for any post-secondary educational program such as colleges or technical programs, and help them locate other resources. The EOC counselor will be at the BPL on Tuesdays also 1PM-4PM beginning June 9th. In the near future another of ETSU’s TRIO programs will be offering a counselor for help for veterans.

The counselors who are working with us are knowledgeable and very committed to helping people who want to make positive changes for more education and more skills for employment. Both are so easy to talk to I think everyone will be very comfortable and will really gain from contact with them,” said Doris Stickley, Marketing Director for the Bristol Public Library. “‘Our mission is to Expand Minds, Build Community’ and I think both these programs will be very important resources to do just that.”
