[ARCHIVED] Fire Department Receives Homeland Security Grant

Fire Chief Bob Barnes has announced that the Bristol Tennessee Fire Department is the recipient of Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) which is a competitive program of FEMA’s Department of Homeland Security. The grant award will provide federal funds of $51,682 to be combined with a local contribution of $5,168 to purchase $56,850 of emergency medical equipment that is designed to assist both moving and lifting patients.

The AFG funds will be used to purchase a bariatric cot, bariatric power load system, and a cot fastening system; two high performance, heavy duty pro level cots; and, two heavy duty pro level stair chairs. “The new equipment will allow firefighters to provide a higher level of patient care and will enhance the safety of both patients and fire personnel”, said Barnes. The Bristol Tennessee Fire Department responds to over 4,000 emergency medical calls each year and is rated as a Class “A” ambulance provider by the State of Tennessee.
