The City of Bristol will host a Passenger Appreciation Day, on Thursday, October 29, 2015 for all those who take part in public transportation. Anyone riding the city bus that day will ride for free. A free lunch will also be provided to transit passengers. Lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Downtown Center Transportation Hub located on Shelby Street. Hotdogs and hamburgers will be offered along with drinks and cookies. Live music will be played. “Many people think the bus is not for them. Maybe they have never even been on one. We want to encourage people to come down, take a look and ride for free. They will see that the equipment is modern, comfortable and safe,” said Bill Sorah, City Manager.
Between the two cities of Bristol Tennessee and Bristol Virginia there are six buses on the road at any given time. Buses run daily Monday through Friday. Tennessee transit buses run from 6AM to 5PM; the Virginia transit buses run between the hours of 7AM and 5PM.
The transit system travels each day to the hospital, mall, and outlying shopping centers in order to accommodate the needs of its customers. Copies of the bus schedules are available at the transit hub, on the buses, and an electronic copy is also available on the city website at http://www.bristoltn.org.
