BRISMET, a division of Synalloy Metals, is expanding the Bristol plant. The facility produces welded stainless steel and high alloy pipe for heavy industrial use throughout the world. The current facility is limited to the gauge, or thickness, of 0.5”-0.75” walls on the pipe produced by the facility. An expansion project has been approved that will allow the production of pipe with a wall thickness up to three inches, expanding the company’s production capability.
The company is anticipating a direct investment of $4.9 million in equipment and installation, with additional investments in future years. BRISMET will be utilizing a building on the current Bristol site that formerly housed their fabrication division. Upgrades will be made to the building, as well as ingress and egress upgrades. The expansion project is expected to be completed during the second quarter of 2016.
BRISMET’s workforce will increase from its current level of approximately 140 employees to 200 over the next 3-4 years. A majority of these jobs will be manufacturing and maintenance type with 4-6 being office and salary type jobs.
Kyle Pennington, President of BRISMET, stated that the company’s production of batch made products could double with the new heavy wall business. “We are looking forward to working with the different agencies required to make this a very successful growth opportunity for our business and the economic region,” continued Pennington.

Pennington went on to thank NETworks, City of Bristol Tennessee, the Bristol Industrial Development Board, Bristol Tennessee Essential Services, the Tennessee Valley Authority, First Tennessee Development District, and Tennessee Department of Transportation.
