As voting came to a close at 11:59 PM Pacific on March 31, 2016, Bristol, Tennessee/Virginia emerged as the winner of the “Charming Town” category in ShopOnMain’s Best Shopping On Main Street competition. Towns were divided into the categories of Bustling, Charming, and Quaint, depending upon their population size, and one winner was selected from each category. In total, more than 100 towns were nominated, and more than 20,000 votes were cast. Bristol received 3,640 of those votes, surpassing their nearest competitor by a margin of more than 700 votes.
The competition’s sponsor, ShopOnMain.com, is a new website designed to offer online retail opportunities to local stores and small businesses nationwide. Retailers are able to create listings and online storefronts, sorted by town, to showcase and sell their products. The only cost to business owners is a small transaction fee each time an item is sold on the site. As a winner of the competition, Bristol will be featured on the main page of ShopOnMain’s site. Bristol will also be featured on an upcoming episode of the nationally televised series Small Town Big Deal, which is seen by approximately 500,000 viewers each week. The show can be seen anytime online at SmallTownBigDeal.com, or Thursdays at 9:30 PM on RFD-TV. Viewers should contact their television provider for channel information.
