[ARCHIVED] State Street Farmers Market set to open

Bristol’s State Street Farmers Market opens for the 2016 season Saturday, May 7, rain or shine.

There will be farmers, artisans, and craftspeople from around the region. The State Street Farmers Market has seen farmers bring their harvests into the city for folks to pick and choose from for 17 years. On the first day of the market, there will be farm fresh food from all over the area. “There will be the season’s first greens and onions in plentiful supply. We are anticipating some plants just in time for Mother’s Day, along with a variety of pre-prepped meals and baked goods, goat cheese, jams, and salsas. We also will have a wide variety of vendors with lots of homemade craft goods,” said Mike Musick, Recreation Superintendent of Bristol, Tennessee’s Parks and Recreation Department.

The Farmers Market opens at 8:00 am and runs until noon on Saturdays through the end of October. In July the market will begin the Wednesday evening markets which run through September. The Wednesday market opens at 2:00 pm and operates until 6:00 pm.

“Everyone looks forward to the market opening each spring.” continued Musick. “The market fosters a dynamic economic and educational relationship between our neighbors, farmers, and crafts people by providing a place for food grown locally using a natural and environmentally safe farming methods and for locally created craft goods and prepared foods.”

State Street Farmers market is located at 810 State Street in historic downtown Bristol. Visit the market website at www.statestreetfarmersmarket.com.
