City crews began minor road work in the median of Highway 11W at the Island Road / Steven’s Trail intersection on August 1, 2016. The work will improve safety and stacking capacity for vehicles making left turn movements from Highway 11W onto Island Road. The project is a phased effort to improve traffic movements and safety at the intersection due to increased traffic volumes associated with new development in the area. The current work is funded by the City. Additional improvements are being evaluated by the Tennessee Department of Transportation and will be implemented at a later date.
Work will mostly occur in the median but temporary closure of the eastbound median lane will be necessary periodically during the project. The project is anticipated to conclude by the middle of August 2016, weather permitting.
City crews will make every effort to minimize inconveniences during the construction period. In the interest of safety, please slow down through the construction zone and be alert to increased traffic congestion.
Should you have questions or concerns during the construction period, you may contact me at 423-989-5585.
The City of Bristol appreciates your patience and understanding during this period and, as always, strives to provide you the best in municipal services.
