Warm weather is here, the trees are budding, the snow seems to be behind us, and everyone is beginning to work on long-neglected projects like spring cleaning and yard work.
Just as nature is undergoing a fresh start, so are homeowners who are ready to clean up the debris that has been accumulating in basements, storage sheds, and garages over the winter.
The city’s Public Works Department offers the following tips, as a reminder, for when solid waste collection day rolls around in your neighborhood.
Please remember to use the rollout containers only for garbage, paper products, bottles, cans, rags, and similar items. Do not put any small appliances, building materials, dirt, rock, concrete, electronic equipment, flammables, florescent tubes, furniture, hazardous materials, liquids, tires, or yard waste in the rollout containers.
Place your rollout at the curb no earlier than noon on the day before collection, and remove it by midnight the day of collection. The containers are not intended to be left on the curb.
Junk, tires, and yard waste are all picked up by another Public Works truck on the same day that your garbage is collected. Please go to the city’s website to find out more details as to what may be included in these types of pickups. Keep in mind that the city will not pick up yard waste generated by landscaping or tree services; this is the contractor’s responsibility.
