The City of Bristol Tennessee is preparing to host a series of community meetings on the fiscal year 2018 budget. The city has an annual fiscal budget, which begins July 1 of each year. The city approaches the budget with a financial plan for operations and a Capital Improvement Plan. During the budget process staff also outlines approximately 190 goals and objectives from throughout the city’s individual departments for the upcoming fiscal year.
The Fiscal 2018 Budget is a balanced budget with total expenditures of $106,310,082. The proposed budget maintains the current property tax rate, solid waste fees, storm water fees, and utility rates.
Some of the topics that will be covered include the city’s path to fiscal stability, how the budget is developed, the budget process, and the Capital Improvement Plan. There will also be time made available for questions, suggestions, and other comments from the public.

The first two meetings will be hosted at the Slater Center in the cafeteria at 325 McDowell Street. The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9 at 6 pm; the second meeting is set for Thursday, May 11 at 1 pm. The final meeting will be hosted on the campus of Tennessee High School in the newly renovated Frank Winston Auditorium on May 23 at 6 pm.
