The Bristol Tennessee Neighborhood Small Grant Competition’s application process is now open. The program is administered by the Community Development Department who will make $5,000 in funding available to residential neighborhoods or community groups who are seeking to initiate sustainable improvement projects. The application is available on the city’s website, www.bristoltn.org and in the Community Development office located at 104 8th Street. The deadline for applications is June 29, 2018.
For the third year in a row, this $5,000 grant competition is being made available to neighborhood organizations, individuals, religious organizations, and community groups to propose projects that improve livability and enhance quality of life at the local level.
“The main objective is to help make sustainable improvements and enhancements to the built environment at the neighborhood level. Through this grant, residents can be instrumental in bringing to life the vision of a more sustainable city,” said Brian Rose, Director of Community Development for the City.
There are many ways in which the program may be implemented. Some of the categories considered are: neighborhood character, vitality and ecology, equity, empowerment, diversity, health, well-being, safety, arts, culture, and innovation. Ideas may include neighborhood enhancements that celebrate the arts, music, education, etc. They may suggest the creation of neighborhood garden spaces that may increase social interaction, a bike or walking club, landscaping, benches, public art, or street trees.
The project areas must be within the city limits of Bristol, Tennessee and be located on public property or city right-of-way, though residents are certainly encouraged to work with city staff to assist with solutions that may involve private property as well.
All applications will be reviewed by the Community Development Advisory Committee in July, and the grant will be awarded by City Council at their regular monthly meeting in September.
