The City of Bristol Tennessee will celebrate the men and women of the Public Works Department during the National Public Works Week, May 20-27, 2018. These hard-working professionals focus on infrastructure, facilities, and services that are of vital importance to a sustainable and resilient community and to the public health, high quality of life, and well-being of citizens of Bristol, Tennessee.
The city’s infrastructure, facilities, and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals who are engineers, managers, and employees of the city and our private partners.
These are the people who are responsible for rebuilding, improving, and protecting our city’s transportation, water supply, water treatment, and solid waste systems.
Of the city’s 344 full-time employees, 31% of those are assigned to the Public Works Department.
“These are the outstanding individuals who ensure the delivery of quality city services such as potable drinking water, environmentally sound treatment of sanitary sewer, safe and well maintained roadways, address inclement winter weather and storm events, provide residential solid waste collection programs, special event management, and a public transportation system. None of these are easy tasks, and our associates excel at the delivery of city services on a daily basis.” said Bill Sorah, City Manager. “I get up each morning, thankful for their dedication to keeping the city running smoothly.”
Public Works employees are some of the city’s most front line staff members. You will see them during the winter clearing the roads and in the summer trimming the grass along city roadways. They are the individuals who drive the public transit busses and vans. They are the people who gather the garbage each week, and they are the ones working on broken water pipes in harsh conditions. They are the Public Works employees the city will be celebrating May 20-27, 2018.
