Time is almost up. The Bristol Tennessee Neighborhood Grant Competition is drawing to a close. All entries must be post marked or dropped by the Community Development Office located at 104 Eighth Street no later than 5:00 P.M on Friday, June 29, 2018.
To be considered for the $5,000 grant, the project area must be within the city limits of Bristol, Tennessee and located on public property or city right-of-way. Residents are encouraged to work with city staff to assist with solutions that may involve private property as well. The applicant(s) must attend one of the Bristol Exchange meetings that are in May. The next and final meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 29 at the Frank Winston Auditorium located on the Tennessee High School campus. The Bristol Exchange meetings will give participants an intimate look at the city’s budget process and how budgeting decisions are made.
There are many areas in which the program may be implemented. Some of the categories considered are neighborhood character, vitality and ecology, equity, empowerment, diversity, health, well-bring, safety, arts, culture, or innovation. Ideas may include neighborhood celebrations centered on arts, music, education, etc., neighborhood garden space that may increase generational interaction, a bike or walking club, landscaping, bus benches, public art, or street trees.
