The State Street Farmer’s Market is now open on Wednesday afternoons from 2PM to 6PM. At the height of the season each year the market extends its hours to a weekday afternoon, allowing those who work to stop by for the freshest of vegetables and meats to take home. “The Farmer’s Market is an amazing place during the summer. It is as much of a social gathering place as any place downtown. Friends often gather to share their life’s weekly highlights, and they may even trade recipes that involve the newest product to arrive at the market,” said Mike Musick of Parks and Recreation.
Farmer’s Market patrons may choose from a wide array of products such as local produce, farm raised meats, homemade foods, and unique arts and crafts. The Wednesday afternoon market is open from July through September.
In the coming weeks the market will feature fresh from the field sweet corn, ruby red tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, berries, as well as fresh baked breads, cakes, and cookies. Local farmers bring their top cuts of meat to the market just in time for the grilling season. Fresh cut flowers and lots of unique artesian crafts are offered as well.
