08/22/18 Boyd Foundation presents City of Bristol Tennessee with $25,000 grant to develop new dog pa

The City of Bristol Tennessee celebrated a milestone today in developing a new dog park for the east end of the City.  Randy and Jenny Boyd of the Boyd Foundation presented a $25,000 check to City Officials and Parks and Recreation Director, Terry Napier to assist in that effort.

Communities across the state applied for the grant offered by the Boyd Foundation.  In order to qualify, the city had to show engagement in an event centered on charitable contributions for a pet organization in need and, as a community, go above and beyond competitors to show pet pride.

Bristol Tennessee Parks and Recreation held a dog food drive for the Sullivan County Animal Shelter as its grant project event.  The goal was to bring in 300 pounds of dog food, and that was far exceeded.  Over 1500 pounds of dry dog food was brought in by the community.  The “Pounds for the Pound” project was an overwhelming success.

The department took the event a step farther with the creation of the first ever “Pawtraits” Doggie Calendar Contest.  The contest closed recently with over 50 entries.  Later in the year 12 winners will be announced and a calendar will be created.

“I would like to thank all those involved in the project for your efforts and donations of dog food.  We were amazed out the outpouring of generosity.  We live in a wonderful city where we care for each other and our pets,” stated Terry Napier.  “We cannot thank the Boyd Foundation enough for their support and dedication to pets’ well-being across the state.”
