On Thursday, October 4, 2018 the City’s Transit division will encourage people to ride public transportation to take them where they need to go, instead of driving a car. This day is set aside each year to emphasize that public transportation is a convenient travel option that also helps people save money. All City transit bus rides will be free that day. From 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM there will be a hot dog and hamburger lunch served to current City transit riders as a gesture of thanks for taking the bus.
Wes Ritchie, who oversees public transportation for the City said, “Access to the City’s public transportation gives people transportation options to get to work, go to school, drop by the grocery store, shop, visit friends, or go to a doctor’s office”. Since 1995 public transportation ridership increased by 30%. Public transportation provides personal mobility and freedom for people from every walk of life.
