Bristol, Tennessee Mayor, Margaret Feierabend, has signed a proclamation announcing an effort to educate citizens about the importance of the 2020 Census and how participation directly impacts the City.
Participating in Census 2020 is vital to not only Bristol; the results can be felt nationwide. The count is used to appropriate the number of legislatures at the national, state, and local levels. It also helps the federal government in the distribution about $675 billion in federal funds, grants, and support to states, counties, and communities.
Census 2020 also affects the City in ways the public might not realize. The data plays a crucial role in bringing new companies to the region. City departments like Economic Development use census data to show businesses and contractors that their work is sustainable in the area.
As part of the proclamation, a Complete Count Committee will be created to advise the City of Bristol in obtaining the most accurate and complete population count. The committee aims to complete this goal by increasing the number of City responses through a focused, structured neighbor-to-neighbor program.
“The 2020 census is so important to our region, that is why the education process is starting a year early,” said Margaret Feierabend, Mayor of Bristol Tennessee. “For such an important initiative, we want to ensure that Bristol residents know and understand how the census can influence our city. From appropriation of funds to representative redistricting, the data is used in many ways.”
Census 2020 education kicks off April 1, 2019. The official Census count starts in April 2020.
