[ARCHIVED] Bristol Public Library to Host Census Job Fairs

CensusJobFair

The Bristol Public Library will host a series of job fairs during the month of January to recruit temporary workers to assist with the 2020 Census.

The upcoming job fairs are specifically designed to recruit workers for positions in Bristol, Tennessee and Bristol, Virginia, but jobs are available throughout Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Bristol salaries range from $14 per hour to $19 per hour, plus expenses. Officials will be available to answer questions and assist applicants during the job fairs, which will be held at the Bristol Public Library from 1 to 4 p.m. on:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 21
  • Wednesday, Jan. 22
  • Tuesday, Jan 28
  • Wednesday, Jan. 29

The greatest need is for census takers to interview household residents and update address lists. Schedules are flexible but may require evening and weekend work. Paid training will be conducted between March and mid-May, and work will take place between May and July. Applicants must pass a background check and complete a training program before starting work.

To be eligible for 2020 Census jobs, applicants must be 18 or older; have a valid social security number; be a U.S. Citizen; have a valid email address; be able to speak, read and write in English; and, if applicable, be registered with the Selective Service System. Most jobs also require a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, plus access to a computer with internet and an email account.

For information about the upcoming job fairs, please contact Bristol Virginia City Planner Sally Morgan at (276) 645-3784 or Bristol Tennessee Planning Services Manager Cherith Young at (423) 989-5518. Those unable to attend one of the scheduled job fairs may apply for 2020 Census jobs online or receive additional information at www.census.gov.
