Only a few days remain to enter the Counting Rainbows contest that was created by the City of Bristol, Tennessee to encourage City residents to complete the 2020 Census and decorate the community with colorful rainbows.
“Rainbows have emerged during the coronavirus pandemic as a symbol of hope and good things to come,” said Planning Services Manager Cherith Young. “The Census also provides hope for the future by ensuring federal dollars flow back to Bristol for important community resources like schools, roads, hospitals, and more. Through this contest, we’re encouraging young people to color and display their rainbow, then make sure their family gets counted in the 2020 Census.”
To enter, contestants may color a rainbow coloring sheet provided by the city, post it in a window of their home, send a picture of it via email, and tell us who completed the 2020 Census for their family. Those who complete these steps are automatically entered to win a $25 Food City gift card. The deadline to enter is Monday, May 18 at 5 p.m. Coloring sheets and complete contest rules are available at www.bristoltn.org/rainbowcontest.
The U.S. Census Bureau is required by federal law to take a count of America’s population every 10 years. Data gathered is confidential and used to determine how many representatives each state gets in Congress and how federal dollars are allocated to communities. U.S. citizens this year have the option of completing the census online, by mail, or by phone. To date, 60.1 percent of Bristol, Tennessee residents have responded to the 2020 Census.
