Sounds of Summer, a concert series that has featured live music in Downtown Bristol each Tuesday and Thursday for more than two decades, has been canceled for the 2020 season.
Coordinator Angie Rutherford of the Bristol, Tennessee Department of Parks and Recreation said the decision is based on ongoing health concerns related to the coronavirus. Officials in May announced plans to cancel all events for June and July and said then a decision regarding August and September concerts would be forthcoming.
“Although we were hopeful that we could return in late summer with live music downtown, we are confident this is the best decision for our artists and guests,” Rutherford said. “We’re using this time off to plan for next year, and look forward to returning in 2021 for our best season ever.”
The longest running concert series in downtown Bristol, Sounds of Summer events often attract hundreds to the stage under the iconic country music mural at Downtown Center. This year would have marked the series’ 24th season.
