[ARCHIVED] Two Bristol Tennessee Police Department employees promoted

Lieutenant

Justin Bush and Jimmy Dillard, two experienced members of the Bristol Tennessee Police Department who have completed the required testing and training, have been promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

Lt. Bush joined the BTPD in April 2010 and started his career in the patrol division. After five years in patrol, he transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), where he served as a general investigator and child abuse investigator for just over four years. He recently returned to the department’s Patrol Division and will continue there in his new role of lieutenant.  Lt. Bush holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from East Tennessee State University.

Lt. Dillard began his career in law enforcement as a member of the Bristol Virginia Sheriff’s Department in 2006. He joined the BTPD in 2013 as a patrol officer, then transferred to CID as a general investigator. He is now assigned to the department’s Support Services Division. Lt. Dillard holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Bethel University.

“We’re fortunate to have individuals with the experience and education that Lt. Bush and Lt. Dillard bring to their new leadership roles,” said Police Chief Blaine Wade. “They have always shown the highest level of professionalism, and I’m confident they will continue to serve our department and our community with honor and integrity.”

To be considered for promotion to the rank of lieutenant, members of the department must take a nationally standardized written test, complete a training and experience questionnaire, and then undergo a board interview with both internal and external police management assessors. Once all candidates have been ranked, they are interviewed by Chief Wade before a final selection is made.

In their new roles, both lieutenants will manage and supervise personnel within their respective divisions to ensure the general welfare and safety of City residents.
