Community members of all ages are invited to participate in a series of free pop-up dance classes throughout the month of August, led by Pop Up & Dance Founder Danielle Mumpower at Bristol Tennessee’s Steele Creek Park.

Weather permitting, classes will be held outdoors at Civitan Shelter at Steele Creek Park on Monday, Aug. 9; Wednesday, Aug. 11; Monday, Aug. 16; Wednesday, Aug 18; and Friday, Aug. 20. The classes are sponsored by the Department of Parks & Recreation.

Little Movers, a class that allows children and adults to dance together, will begin at 10 a.m. each day. The class involves music and ballet basics, along with imagination play. It is recommended for tiny dancers between the ages of 18 months and 4 years, but all ages are welcome. Participants should bring a blanket, drinking water, and sunscreen.

Dance Cardio will begin at 11 a.m. each day and is designed for those who like to move their bodies and dance it out. The class is for all dance levels and will blend a cardio workout with fun and upbeat dance routines. Participants should wear comfortable clothing, athletic shoes, and sunscreen.

A Bristol native, Mumpower taught dance throughout New York City for nearly a decade before founding Pop Up & Dance, a virtual and pop-up style dance platform designed to make dance more accessible to movers of all ages and backgrounds. Her classes are free, but a $2 gate fee is charged for each vehicle that enters Steele Creek Park.
