[ARCHIVED] Bristol Tennessee man charged with attempted murder, other charges

A Bristol, Tennessee man has been arrested on attempted 1st-degree murder and other charges following a Wednesday night incident at a Volunteer Parkway apartment.

On October 20, 2021, at approximately 11:26 p.m., the Bristol Tennessee Police Department responded to an incident at 1705 Volunteer Parkway, Apt 2, in which a male suspect had reportedly poured gasoline on a female victim and attempted to set her on fire. Officers with the Bristol Tennessee Police Department arrived on scene and witnessed a physical altercation in progress between the male suspect and female victim. Officer witnessed the male suspect with a lighter attempting to commit the act. Officers immediately intervened and the suspect became combative with officers. After a brief physical altercation, the lighter was removed from the suspect's possession, and he was detained without further incident. The female subject described being physically assaulted by the male suspect as well as having gasoline poured on her and feared being set on fire. The male suspect and female victim involved in the incident are domestic partners. The female victim was treated on-scene by EMS and sustained non-life threatening injuries. 

The male suspect, William Scott Blevins, 45 years old of Bristol TN, was arrested and charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Domestic Assault, Assault on Law Enforcement and Resisting Arrest. Blevins was transported and is currently being held in the Sullivan County Jail on a $50,000 bond. 

The Criminal Investigations Division is continuing the investigation.
