[ARCHIVED] Engineer set to examine 6th Street building

Web 6th

A structural engineer will examine the building at 23 6th Street in downtown Bristol, Tennessee today to determine what steps are needed to ensure the integrity of the structure that resulted in a portion of 6th Street being closed Sunday while shoring measures were completed.

Officials from the Bristol Tennessee Fire Department, the Bristol Tennessee Police Department, and the
City’s Division of Codes Enforcement were called to the scene Sunday afternoon after a neighboring property owner heard breaking glass. A portion of the street was closed to traffic much of Sunday afternoon and evening while City officials completed their investigation and a contractor hired by the building’s owner made temporary repairs. That work was completed just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

The sidewalk in front of the building remains closed, but 6th Street is open to traffic. The public is encouraged to use caution in the area.

Additional details will be released as they become available.
