[ARCHIVED] Public invited to help plan future of West State Street

west state web

Community members are invited to assist the City of Bristol Tennessee in redeveloping West State Street as a central corridor for commerce, tourism, and economic growth by offering their suggestions during a public session scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17.

The Open House will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. in the gym of Slater Community Center. Consultants Mary Connelly and Anne Wallace of WSP, an engineering and professional services firm, will be available to provide details about the study and gather input. Members of the public may drop by any time during the hour-long public session.

Of particular interest are strategies that will allow the City to improve the West State Street corridor from downtown to Exit 74 of Interstate 81 by maximizing the existing infrastructure, improving safety, identifying future land use, encouraging redevelopment, and promoting best practices to revitalize the corridor as a destination.

Data collected during the upcoming public session and additional input gathered during a subsequent survey will be compiled into a final report, which is expected to be released next summer. This effort is being funded through a Transportation Planning Grant (TPG) from the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
