Margaret served as Mayor for 2 consecutive terms from July 2018 - June 2020 and Vice Mayor from July 2017-June 2018. She proudly served as the first woman Mayor in Bristol TN, 1997-98. Margaret and her family have lived in Bristol for 37 years and in the region for 41.  She has an undergraduate degree from LSU and a MEd in Community Health Education from UNC Greensboro.  She and her husband have 3 grown children, twin grandchildren and 2 young men they grandparent, students at THS and ETSU.  Margaret believes that jobs, economic development and quality of life issues are key to our community's success.  She serves on nonprofit boards; United Way of Bristol, Family Promise of Bristol,  Bristol Public Library Foundation, Bristol Tennessee City Schools Foundation and others. She continues her advocacy for children, youth and families with her work through Bristol’s Promise: Youth Networking Alliance, working with Twin City Reads, Trauma Informed Care Community,  Sullivan County Anti Drug Coalition and other initiatives. She volunteers as a Reading Buddy and at the Bristol Food Pantry.  Margaret strives for engaged citizens and positive citizen involvement, making Bristol TN/VA the best Place to Live.
